About HALO
HALO is a No-kill, 501c3 non-profit organization dedicated to ending pet overpopulation.
HALO was founded in 1994 by two women, Michel and Heather, out of their home in Phoenix, Arizona. Michel and Heather started HALO because they love animals and couldn’t just stand by and watch millions of cats and dogs being euthanized needlessly.
HALO is helping to end the pet overpopulation epidemic by providing temporary shelter to abandoned cats and dogs until a permanent home can be found.
Each year HALO places over 2000 abandoned animals in loving, forever homes.
Please do your part to help the needless killing of over 900 dogs and cats each week in Maricopa County and have your pet spayed or neutered.
HALO Pet Philosophy
HALO believes in the unique individuality of every dog/cat we rescue. Their gentle hearts, good health and "forever" happiness are our top concern. Placing them into a home and family who will love them unto their last breath is our mission.
Adopting and loving a pet is a commitment you make no matter what difficult times lay ahead. From your pet's behavioral problems to your own lifestyle changes along the road, you have taken this pet as a member of your family for life, not merely when convenient.
Pets are NOT disposable! They are living, feeling beings whose spirits possess a full range of emotions including, love, fear and loss. Every day, we see the results of human cruelty, neglect, abandonment and thoughtlessness. These sensitive companions often come to us desperate to love and be loved but hesitant to trust a human again. We think they deserve better.
HALO seeks adoptive families who understand the degree of this commitment and who will shower unconditional love upon these lucky few who have been rescued from death for a second chance at life. When you adopt a rescued pet from HALO, you have saved that life. How you nurture, protect and treasure that life is a measure of your character, heart and soul.
You will not find a truer friend, one more glad of your presence, one more appreciative of your affections, one who adores you more with a completely honest heart, one who seeks to protect you more or one with a more unflinching sense of humor. They give back far more than you can ever give them. But give you should, to their final moment upon this earth.
Help us stop the death of the innocent! Don't just adopt. Adopt forever. That's how you can make a difference not just for the one you take into your heart, but for all of them.
HALO is proud to be a partner in the Alliance for Companion Animals and a participant in the Maddie’s Pet Rescue Project in Maricopa County
The Alliance for Companion Animals is a collaborative group comprised of traditional and no-kill animal shelters, county animal control, rescue organizations, veterinarians and animal welfare advocates in Maricopa County.
The mission of the Alliance is to effect positive social change and create a community-wide network of resources that ensure lifetime, loving environments for all companion animals. With the assistance of Maddie’s Fund, the Alliance seeks to end euthanasia of healthy, adoptable dogs and cats in Maricopa County by 2007.
Currently, the Alliance’s largest program is the Maddie’s Pet Rescue Project of Maricopa County, which aims to increase the number of shelter animal adoptions and is sponsored by a grant from Maddie’s Fund.®
